NTU students' bus stop prank on STOMP
Thursday, September 10, 2009
NTU is seen on STOMP again, this time round representing the school are a group of students who "turned" a shuttle bus stop in the campus into one that bus 179 stopovers. The trick is with a self-made bus stop sign attached to the bus stop stand.
Then, netizens posted comments saying that NTU students are childish, have not much coursework, impression of NTU deteriorates...
As always, public opinions are skewed towards simplifying matters and stereotyping. Do negative incidents really suffice deeming what standard or calibre is of NTU students?
Politically speaking, it is illegal to play such a prank to a bus captain, who represents a transport company, but members of public ought to mature in the way they form their opinions based on events that are reported.
When things get screwed up, the public simply claims that the system is flawed. Just because these things are non-conventional and deviates from the conservative perspectives. Why not look into the matter, identify the reasons, and then make reasonable comment?
If everything function in such a simple way, whereby a direct causation and correlation can be drawn, there is no need to pursue much higher education. Because one plus one surely results in two.
Singaporeans need to be more receptive towards acceptable humour, make responsible in-depth comments and not judge based on face-values.
